Second Day of NATO Council in Brussels - Osmani: Stronger strategic cooperation between NATO and the EU

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani at the beginning of the second day of the NATO North Atlantic council with expectation for increased partnership between NATO and the EU and the role of the Western Balkans in this alliance.

“We had some productive meetings yesterday. Today we will hold discussions with our partners, including the EU. I want to stress the need for stronger strategic cooperation between NATO and the EU, and particularly in the Western Balkans, as a region of significant strategic importance for the two organizations”, said Osmani ahead of the second session of the NATO Ministerial meeting.

Osmani also noted that similarly to NATO, the perspective of EU integration can strengthen the stability and security of the region.

“We should not allow any ambivalence to result in divergence, which can also be taken advantage by foreign actors; the Western Balkans’ joining the EU is of particular importance”, Osmani emphasised.

Today, Osmani’s agenda, in addition to the sessions in the framework of the Ministerial Council, includes individual meetings with the Foreign Minister of Portugal, the current President of the European Union, Augustos Santos Silva, and the Foreign Minister of Finland, Pekka Olavi Haavisto.
